Kansas City Chiefs head coach son Britt Reed’s sentence commuted by governor

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has commuted the sentence of former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, who was convicted of seriously injuring five people, including a child, in a 2021 drunken driving crash.

Britt Reid, 38, son of Chiefs head Andy Reid, was sentenced to 3 years in state prison on November 1, 2022, for driving while intoxicated while involved in a Kansas City crash.

Governor Parson’s office on Friday approved the commutation of Reid’s sentence and, as part of the commutation, will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

A Parson’s spokesperson told Kite News in a statement, Reid has completed treatment for his alcohol abuse. Compared to most people convicted of similar crimes, Reid served a longer prison sentence.

Mr. Reid will remain under house arrest until October 31, 2025, with strict conditions of probation, but he could be sent back to prison if he violates the conditions. Parson’s Office said.

On February 4, 2021, Reid hit two cars stopped on the side of the highway while driving his pickup truck near Arrowhead Stadium, while his blood alcohol level was 0.113. The speed of his car was 84 mph.

5-year-old Ariel Young was seriously injured in the crash. Including a severe traumatic brain injury, which will cause him difficulties for the rest of his life, an attorney for his family said.

During a 2022 plea hearing, Reid apologized for his huge mistake, saying “I’m truly sorry for what I’ve done.”

Britt Reid changed Ariel’s life forever, but in 2021 the Chiefs agreed to pay for Ariel’s lifelong care as well as other expenses.
